To be the Best...

I'm feeling kind of funny today.  If you've been keeping up with my blog posts, you're either a webmaster or a stalker.  I say that, because as of this writing, the site still isn't live to the public.  But if you're reading it, it's live.  And I've written two posts prior to this one(in a different category, this is the first Training Regimen post).  In my last posting, I wrote of how well my progress has been coming so far and included a pic showing the fruits of my labor (thank you to Paul at Mojera for editing what was a bit of a racy pic).

Today (about a week later), I feel like I look like crap.  My sleeping and eating patterns were thrown off this weekend, and my muscles are flat.  My once taught shirt is now loosely hanging from my body.  I almost feel like I did when I was heavy in to modeling.  The only difference now is that when I stretch, I know there's some muscle there (somewhere).

It's funny how 2 days of slacking can have such a big impact.  Saturdays and Sundays are my scheduled days off from training (although, I do extremely light cardio on Saturdays), but lately, I've been making the rookie mistake of not taking my nutrition as seriously on those days.  Earlier today, I was talking to a fellow trainer here at the gym and telling them how important nutrition was on days off from working out and explaining how the body is still healing and recuperating from the work they did.  I should have been telling myself this news!!  After saying it though, and thinking about how I feel today, it's become ridiculously obvious to me just how important it is.  But I write about it to show you that even though we often know what's right and what needs to be done, we don't always do it for various reasons.  And that doesn't just apply to training, that applies to life.  So, take some time and think about things you are doing and not doing.  A lot of little things add up to a big difference.

One of my biggest inspirations in the gym (and in life) is Kobe Bryant.  That guy is a workhorse and it shows.  He is the best at what he does (basketball) and it's because he works so damn hard at every aspect of his game.  We all could learn a lesson from him (just avoid sex with hotel staff) on work ethic and living life.  Who is your inspiration?  If you're like me, you have many of them.  I'm sure I'll cover mine throughout future blogs.  Comment and let me know who your inpspiration(s) is (are) and why.

Today is a wash for me, so I'm just going to use up the rest of my time here at the gym (about 3 hours to go) before going home and enjoying some pizza before bed.  It might be my last slice for awhile.

Tomorrow, is the beginning of the rest of my life.  I'm not getting any younger (although I feel like I am everyday), and I have some lofty goals that I would like to reach (sooner rather than later).  I've been putting ninety to ninety five percent effort in to this endeavor, but that's not enough for what I want out of it.  It's cliche, but it's true: You only get out of something what you put in to it.  I want more than 100%, so I have to put in more than 100%, simple as that.  And besides, if I look like I did not putting in 100%, imagine what I can do fully and absolutely committed.

I'll mainly be using the Training Regimen blog to update on how my training is going (sets and reps, stuff like that), but every now and then, there may be need for posts like this.  For both you and I to be able to see in words what I'm going through, and hopefully to motivate us both.  How about yourself?  Have you been giving all that you can give to your efforts?  Not just in the gym, but in life in general.  The things I want in life are centered around the gym, but that might not be the case for you.  The message is the same though.  Give your best to be the best.  At whatever it is that you are doing.

Excelsior!!!
